Nova Scotia Blueberry Cream Cake

2½ cups all-purpose flour
2½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
¾ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1¾ cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
Zest of 1 lemon

For the Blueberry Filling:

2½ cups fresh or wild blueberries (frozen OK if thawed)
½ cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice
1½ tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

For the Cream Frosting:

2 cups heavy whipping cream
⅔ cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
250g (8 oz) mascarpone cheese or cream cheese, chilled

Garnish:

Handful of fresh blueberries
Lemon zest or curls
Mint leaves (optional)
Edible flowers (for lovers) 🌸
