1. Prepare the apples

Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).

Cut the apples into small pieces and mix them with 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
2. Make the batter

In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Add the flour, baking powder, remaining 3 teaspoons of cinnamon, and the pinch of salt. Mix until combined.
3. Combine and bake

Fold the apple pieces into the batter.

Grease a cake tin and pour in the mixture.

Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden brown and firm.
4. Cool and serve

Let the cake cool completely before slicing.

Serve plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or with a dollop of whipped cream.
